Mock API passthrough you can control

Mix deterministic local mocks with upstream truth. Mock routes that block development, pass through routes that are ready, and keep fallback behavior explicit so you can ship with confidence.

What you can validate before you buy

  • Per-endpoint modes: mock, passthrough, or disabled.
  • Server fallback: strict 404 not mocked or passthrough when unmatched.
  • Live View shows served-by sources for every request.

Benefits

Stop choosing between fast mocks and real backends.

The hardest part of passthrough workflows is control: which routes mock, which routes hit upstream, and what happens when something is unmatched. Mockphine makes all three decisions explicit.

  • Mock where it matters: Keep your local loop deterministic by mocking the routes that block you, while leaving the rest to real upstream behavior.
  • Passthrough with guardrails: Choose passthrough per endpoint and set server fallback to strict 404 or passthrough for unmatched routes.
  • Know what served the response: Live View shows served-by sources so you can distinguish mock, passthrough, and passthrough errors fast.

Workflow

Configure passthrough without losing determinism.

You can keep strict behavior for safety while selectively passing through where upstream truth matters.

3-step setup

Explicit modes and fast verification

  1. Set a real backend URL and a fallback mode (strict 404 or passthrough).
  2. Mark routes as mock, passthrough, or disabled based on readiness.
  3. Verify served-by sources and error cases in Live View.

FAQ

Common questions about mock API passthrough.

  • What does passthrough forward? Passthrough forwards method, path, query, headers, and body to your configured real backend URL.
  • What happens when no route matches? Server fallback is explicit: either return a strict 404 not mocked, or pass through unmatched requests to the real backend.
  • What happens if the upstream backend fails? On upstream failure, Mockphine returns a 502 or 504 with a JSON error payload and logs it as a passthrough error.
  • Can I temporarily stop mocking without deleting a route? Yes. Set endpoint mode to disabled to skip the mock response and forward to the real backend.
  • Is passthrough all-or-nothing? No. Passthrough is configurable per endpoint, so you can mix deterministic local mocks with upstream truth route-by-route.
  • Where do I see what happened? Use Live View to inspect request method, path, status, duration, and served-by source in a live request stream.
